My best date ever: A romantic hackney-carriage ride through Vienna

If you’d look for dating apps on my smartphone you would do so in vain. At least since about three months. After my previous relationship broke up last year, I started looking for new dating partners using an app. And what should I say? Not everything that glitters is gold. To be fair, every now and then we kind of liked one another. The men sometimes invited me to dinner. And most of them were charming too. But it never really clicked.

After saying goodbye to my regular dating app, I decided to give Taleja a try: a brand-new single community. The idea to clarify the parameters of a date with your chosen one in advance really convinced me. And there is another feature I liked about the dating website: You can filter dates by city. As I was spending some weeks of my semester break in the Austrian capital, I decided to look for dates in Vienna. And by doing so I came across the profile of a stunning man who wanted to have a date with me there.

A wonderful rendezvous via Taleja

A week later I stood in the middle of this magnificent city. Picturesque little houses lined my way. Our meeting point: A café in the Schönbrunn Palace Park. He was already there. A tall, well-built, slender man. In his mid-30s and super attractive. Exactly my type. I hardly managed restraining myself from throwing my arms around his neck right there and then.

And he made our first contact so easy. As soon as he saw me, he joyfully opened his arms and I – in a playful manner – ran towards him. Seconds later, I was embraced by his strong arms. I have never been welcomed on a rendezvous so perfectly. At this point my heart was already doing little somersaults.

A few minutes later, we sat in the café and exchanged life stories. He already knew that I studied arts and esthetics. I found out that he is a consultant for an international company, originally from Berlin and currently on a business trip in Vienna.

It was quite obvious that he was very successful. But he never defined himself through that or boasted about it. I liked that a lot. Instead, he showed genuine interest and wanted to know all about me. And I had no trouble opening myself. There was this feeling of deep familiarity.

Vienna: Watch it now!

Dating in Austria: Out and about on a hackney-carriage

After walking arm in arm through Vienna for a while, we passed a vacant hackney-carriage. All it took was a short, meaningful glance and a few seconds later we were already sitting on the coach.

The way led us past the Stephanskirche to the Burgtheater and Rathaus. The tour also took us past the beautiful Hofburg and the Michaelertrakt. But we did not really appreciate or even notice all these marvels. We only had eyes for each other, kissed and enjoyed the closeness. Was that love at first sight?

The tour ended just behind St. Peter’s Square. It was here, where we had to say goodbye for now as he had a business dinner later that evening. But he assured me that he would have loved it a thousand times more to spend the evening with me.

When I told him that I had planned to stay in Vienna for two days anyway and had already booked a room, he was beaming with joy. And so, it happened that our second date took place the very next day.

Yes, it was love at first sight.
