WhatsApp kills your dating game

From the dating portal directly into the WhatsApp chat. Amazing! The first step is made. You got her or his mobile number and now the direct line to your flirt. Jackpot! Or not?

If you have already exchanged numbers, it means: Here are two singles, who are really interested in each other. No one gives out their number so quickly, this must be serious. So, the signs are good for hot dates and exciting flirts – you might think!

The problem: Your communication could fall asleep. Fact. As a single, you may have already observed it. Once you’ve exchanged numbers to continue texting on WhatsApp, the dialogue thins out. The breaks between text messages get longer and longer. And eventually, the point sets in where you’re not even sure who exactly you’re texting with. Because in the meantime, interesting new chats have popped up in your online dating community and they are much more exciting.

When it gets like this, you know: This person is not worth it. Keep looking.

Couple on romantic date, feeling a strong attraction towards each other

From flirting on a dating portal into WhatsApp

But let’s say you and your crush have exchanged numbers and now write to each other regularly on WhatsApp. You wish each other a ‘good morning’ a ‘great day’ or even ‘sweet dreams’ garnished with one or more cute emojis.

Oh how nice, the butterflies in your stomach get even more wings!

But there’s a problem: text messages, like the ones you’re busy exchanging on WhatsApp right now, are true dating killers. And for two reasons:

  1. You simply don’t meet in person. You write regularly, exchange information about your everyday life and you are always well informed. And at the same time, you get flattering words or even a hot WhatsApp flirt in between. It’s such a great feeling that you both tend not to even consider a real meeting anymore. Or at least put it off until your former feelings for each other have vanished into thin air. Ouch. That was a hard fall from cloud 7 to the ground of being single.
  2. You have already met in person and more dates are to follow. You enjoy your time together and are already looking forward to the next reunion. In addition, you have already developed feelings for each other. But you are not firmly together yet. You are still getting to know each other. WhatsApp messages are very dangerous. You do not know each other well enough to be able to assess each other. If it takes a while until he or she replies to a message, skepticism will arise. If you get only short and concise answers, you think it’s a sign of lack of interest. And anyway: Why does your crush suddenly stop using emojis?

Point two is especially tricky. It’s entirely possible that he or she is mega busy right now and therefore only responding briefly. Also, the lack of emojis does not mean that there is no more interest. Maybe your beloved wanted to answer you quickly despite stress and has therefore saved with the smileys. Or he has an appointment right away but wanted to get in touch with you beforehand and didn’t even think about smileys.

You see: Even short messages can mean interest. Just like a missing heart emoji.

If, on the other hand, you notice that your chat is going as in point one, you can still act. Suggest a date and a specific time. Then you will also see directly whether he or she is serious about you and really wants to meet you.

And do not forget: Not every word and punctuation mark in a text message carries a hidden meaning. Sometimes a message means exactly what it says. And if in doubt: just ask!
