Some call it a summer romance. Others call it freckling. Freckling refers to a romance that continues over the summer months and ends in autumn. Just like freckles, which appear in the summer and disappear in September. That’s where the name of this dating trend comes from = freckles.
An affair that lasts all summer long
But what makes love so attractive over the summer months? Let’s just ask what makes summer so special: cool drinks in a beach bar, balmy summer nights, relaxing hours on the balcony, trips to the sea – everything that is usually neglected in everyday life. The summer is characterized by free time, holidays, lightheartedness – and what fits in better than a hot flirt or a sensual romance?
Summer flirts are usually very intense. Anyone who gets to know someone far away from the stress of everyday life and can fully and carefree enjoy the moment is far ahead of other couples. Time for two is paramount. No distractions, no stress. Only pure passion and attraction. Anyone who already had a freckling relationship, knows it: During this time, you feel extremely loved and absolutely alive.
Freckling = a new phenomenon?
If you think freckling is a short-lived dating trend – such as Gatsbying or Sneating –, you’re wrong. Summer romances have always been there. Maybe you have even experienced a holiday flirting yourself? However, there is a fundamental change in dating habits: Via flirting apps like Tinder, relationships have become more superficial and short-lived. This is perfect for a dating trend like freckling.
Nevertheless, we should not condemn freckling. As said: Summer romances have always existed. A survey by the market research institute Kantar TNS has even revealed that almost one in four Germans has already experienced a summer love. The romance over the summer months is therefore rather a long-standing phenomenon than a short trend.
How long does a summer romance last?
Freckles come with the first rays of sunshine. They disappear when autumn arrives. As a rule, a freckling romance does not last that long.
In fact, the classic summer romance survives just a month. Only for every fifth does the adventure of freckling last up to three months. And yes, there are also a few singles for whom it never ends: Almost every tenth freckling romance develops into an affair and continues many months – maybe even leads to a lasting relationship.
No matter what goals you pursue with freckling: For both, fun should always be paramount. Then nothing stands in the way of a wonderful summer romance.
